Who is Tom Woolley?
Tom Woolley is an Independent Filmmaker based in the West Midlands, UK.
He is a car owner with a clean, UK driving licence.
When not working on high-end professional productions as a Production / Camera Assistant he develops, writes and shoots his own Independent Films and Screenplays, with a desire to gain more experience in scripted programming. In August 2022 he was selected for the TV Foundation’s ‘The Network 2022’ Talent Scheme.
Tom graduated from Staffordshire University with a First Class Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Film, Television and Radio in 2021. Since then he has worked on several professional Film and Television productions in entry-level positions. Notable productions he has worked on are 'BBC’s ‘Homes Under The Hammer’ as a Runner on several episodes and the BFI Funded Short Film ‘Ticker’ as a Production Assistant. Recently he was also a Camera Assistant for the Badminton Sports Presentation at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He desires to gain more experience in scripted programming.
During his education, Tom created several narrative short films, documentaries and multi-cam television productions, gaining more knowledge in cinematography, videography, scriptwriting and various aspects of studio-based shows. He also was the Assistant Station Manager of Staffs TV, having worked his way up through the station over a number of years, demonstrating his skills on various live and as-live multi-cam programmes.
Independent works currently underway include ‘This Is My Sketchbook’, a documentary following Tom learning how to draw, ‘Life and Time’, a short film (currently in post-production) entirely directed, written, shot and edited by Tom within the confines of pandemic production and a feature-length script called ‘Deprivation’.
Notable previous projects include the short film ‘Stranger’ which was selected in 7 festivals, becoming an award winner for the Best Student Film at the Pheonix Shorts Festival and the London Indie Short Festival.
Being a person who always strives to expand upon his knowledge and skillset, over the last few years Tom has trained and become familiar with camera kit including the Canon C100, Sony FS5, Sony FS7, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K and Sony A7iii (which he currently owns). He has also worked with rigs including dollies and gimbals. Tom is self-taught in various applications and is proficient in the use of Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom Classic. He has also become an Avid Media Composer Certified User.
